The French data protection authority strongly advises against sharing children's photos or videos on social networks, especially from a public profile. Images can be copied or reshared, and may reveal where and when they were taken.

Three questions before you share

  1. Who could see this image now and later?
  2. Have you considered the child's views and the other parent's agreement, as appropriate?
  3. Could you share the moment without a face, name or identifiable location?

For sharing a memory with a few people, the CNIL recommends a private channel rather than a public post. If you still publish, its advice includes avoiding intimate images, hiding the child's face and limiting account visibility.

None of these steps is a perfect guarantee: a recipient could still reshare an image. Thinking before posting remains the safest starting point.
